#revchallenge

Tuesday, July 14, 2020

My pictures for a photo challenge announced on Instagram by my favorite Miata custom product guy Adam at revlimiter.net. It started on Monday June 8th and ran for the next 30 days, ending on July 7th. All the pictures, except about 4 of them were taken on the actual numbered day. I only missed one day, #15: Pride – I had a perfect idea for this one, but whenever we went there to take a picture there was a car in the spot we needed…

Day 00 - Rev Challenge List
A photo challenge announced on Instagram by my favorite Miata customer product guy Adam at revlimiter.net.
Day 01 - Reflection #1
From 18 years ago, our '95 next to freshly repainted flag mural in Aiken, SC. (6/8/20)
Day 01 - Reflection #2
From 18 years ago, our '95 next to freshly repainted flag mural in Aiken, SC. (6/8/20)
Day 02 - Interior #1
I was going to use the second photo from April 2005 of my '03 until I was corrected as to the spirit of the #revchallenge yesterday. (6/9/20)
Day 02 - Interior #2
I was going to use the second photo from April 2005 of my '03 until I was corrected as to the spirit of the #revchallenge yesterday. (6/9/20)
Day 03 - Sunset
Sunset in the age of #covid19 & #alonetogether. (6/10/20)
Day 04 - Wheels #1
Oil Change Day. While it drains, I rotate the tires that are mounted on my WHEELS. While they were off I succumbed to luxury car anal retentiveness and lined up the center cap logos with the valve stem [Caution: photo two contains a blatant suck up in case the challenge originator decides to award prizes...] (6/11/20)

Day 05 - Passenger
99 and 44/100% of the time I am in the driver's seat, today I am playing PASSENGER and taking a selfie with two hands, so I won't drop the phone from a speeding car. (6/12/20)
Day 06 - After Dark
It is well onto day seven for everyone on the east coast, but the sun goes down way late here on the west coast above the 47th parallel. (6/13/20)
Day 07 - Curves
Not too many curves real close by. (6/14/20)
Day 08 - Track Day
Instead of our usual daily walk in the neighborhood, we drove up to Oregon Tech and walked around the running track. (6/15/20)
Day 09 - Hot Wheels
Which one is Mia and which one is Tia? (6/16/20)
Day 10 - Road Trip
Took a very short road trip to different section of the OC&E Woods Trail to do some geocaching. Found 9 of the 10 we looked for. (6/17/20)
Day 11 - Carwash
First sunny day and the whole club shows up to get their cars washed. (6/18/20)
Day 12 - Radio
The only radio here is a usb stick stuck in a grom adapter that is full of 8gig of tunes ripped from radioparadise.com (6/19/20)
Day 13 - Pornography
I had no picture in mind that wouldn't violate the Instagram decency policy except this. 🙂 (6/20/20)
Day 14 - Heart #1
The only sticker we "heart" enough to put on the outside of the car is the dragon from Deals Gap. The rest go inside the trunk lid. (6/21/20)
Day 14 - Heart #2
The only sticker we "heart" enough to put on the outside of the car is the dragon from Deals Gap. The rest go inside the trunk lid. (6/21/20)
Day 16 - Car Hole
This hole used to hold a decorative "fog" light, but now it just holds a decorative mesh grill. (6/23/20)
Day 17 - Detail
On my 2 NAs this blanking plate was swapped out for extra lighting, in my 2 NBs it holds a micro switch that operates the garage door opener. (6/24/20)
Day 18 - Shift #1
Shift: This brushed Voodo shift knob has been my constant companion since the early 90s and has been the first "mod" in my subsequent 3 Miatas. (6/25/20)
Day 18 - Shift #2
Shift: This brushed Voodo shift knob has been my constant companion since the early 90s and has been the first "mod" in my subsequent 3 Miatas. (6/25/20)
Day 19 - Envey
It started as regret a couple months ago for not buying this T from blipshift, but now has morphed into envy of any one who did. (6/26/20)
Day 20 - Slam/Tuck
My lawnmower is slammed so it can be tucked under the home A/C ducting. (6/27/20)
Day 21 - Magazine
The July 1989 Motor Trend. How I learned of the Miata. For the whole story click here. (6/28/20)
Day 22 - Guages
I have a lightly customized set of Adam's 10AE (grey instead of blue highlights) and having lived with them for couple years I have started missing the light colored faces. I might just roll back to stock while I wait on the Sharksgiving Sale to nab some Version Redline gauges. (6/29/20)
Day 23 - Memories
We have participated in the #mossmotoringchallenge since 2014 and the road trips taken in pursuit of points have generated great memories. This pic from 2015 is from one the best, it involves a Washington County, the kindness of others and emus. For the story click here. (6/30/20)
Day 24 - Detour
ODOT's website tells me I would have to drive 70 miles one way to I-5 to find a Detour Sign, so I've opted for a blast from back in 2018. (7/1/20)
Day 25 - Lights
Taillights by the light of a tiny moon. (7/2/20)
Day 26 - Rearview Mirror #1
Photo 1: My favorite mod on the '95 Laguna - NB mirrors on an NA. Photo 2: I misremembered the category as just Rearview... so we went out tonite and recreated my favorite Instagram #cargirl pose. (7/3/20)
Day 26 - Rearview Mirror #2
Photo 1: My favorite mod on the '95 Laguna - NB mirrors on an NA. Photo 2: I misremembered the category as just Rearview... so we went out tonite and recreated my favorite Instagram #cargirl pose. (7/3/20)
Day 27 - Take Out Drive
Nothing says 4th of July like BBQ. (7/4/20)
Day 28 - Solo
99.99% of the time the Miata is filled with both a pilot and a navigator. I am solo in it about once a month when I am sent a mile downtown to pick up and return with our pizza. This was me last time killing time in the parking lot waiting... (7/5/20)
Day 29 - Free Space
Sundown in the Klamath Basin. I was going to take a picture in an empty parking lot like I took today's challenge literally, but the navigator nixed it. (7/6/20)
Day 30 - Family
This is our family. She has a brother 500 miles away, I have a brother 3, 000 and the other siblings plus progeny are scattered all over. (7/7/20)

I Don’t Have A Cat

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

While wandering the interwebs this evening looking to find something to entertain me when I came across this photo as the header image for a Lifehacker article and for whatever reason it spoke to me.

It is sort of like the Mona Lisa as it mirrors the painting’s novel qualities, including the subject’s expression, which is frequently described as enigmatic, the monumentality of the composition, the subtle modelling of forms, and the atmospheric illusionism.

Enjoy!

Red Sox Win The World Series Again!

Sunday, July 5, 2020

This morning we watched Game #5 of the 2018 World Series on MLBTV and the Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5 to 1 to win the 2018 World Series! Again!

The 2020 baseball season is supposed to start in less than 3 weeks, but not everybody is so sure, Mike Trout for one and me for another. But either way, I’m thinking that my access to MLBTV will be shut off pretty soon so I’m glad I got to watch the 2018 series again. And, unlike last time, I watched every single inning of every game.

You know, if you look back at my 2018 post about them winning, I talked about my buying a 2018 WS Champions hat. It included pictures of my previous hats from 2004, 2007 and 2013 from the MLB shop and the one from there of the 2018 that the players got on the field in 2018. I didn’t really like the MLB shop one, it was gray instead of blue, so I hunted up something that looked more along the lines of the previous three and I finally found it, I think on the Dick’s Sporting Goods store page. Less than 2 years later, that 2018 hat is long gone enough that I don’t even remember what happened to it…

That MLB Shop gray 2018 World Series Hat that I didn’t like is still available. Maybe I should buy now?

These Traffic Signal Control Boxes Are For The Birds

Sunday, June 28, 2020

We had been walking to downtown for shopping, dining and Post Office Box visits practically daily, since we moved here in the end of October, so for the life of me I can’t understand why I never noticed that the traffic signal control boxes were painted with bird themed art. Well, I’m sure I noticed them, but never thought to take a picture of one of them until mid May. There are 14 traffic signals in the downtown area and all but one is decorated. The lone undecorated one is probably the brains of the system, as it is three times as large as the rest of them.

The gallery is as if you walked west on Main Street, turned south on 4th Street, turned east on Klamath Avenue, turned north on 9th Street and then turned east again on Pine Street.

It’s Playoff Time

Tuesday, June 23, 2020

Last month I abandoned my plan of watching the 2018 World Series Champion Red Sox season all over again and jumped ahead three months for fear that MLB was going to actually have a 2020 season.

Because I jumped ahead and started skipping off days, I finished watching the season 3 months and a week early. Today’s game watched was number 162 in which we beat our hated rivals the MFY, 10 to 2, to finish out the season with 108 wins against 54 losses.

There’s a saying in baseball – every team knows they’re going to win 54 games and lose 54 games. It’s what they do with the other 54 games that counts. What the 2018 FRS did was to actually win all those other 54…

The first Red Sox playoff game happened 5 days after the season ended while they waited the results of the one game Wild Card Playoff between those dreaded Yankees and the Oakland A’s. I seem to remember that it does end up being the Yankees they play in the Division Series, I’m not sure if it is Cleveland or Houston in the ACLS, but I do know that they beat the LA Dodgers in the World Series, I’m just not sure how many games each series goes. This should be exciting.

I also know that we won’t be waiting 5 days to start watching the playoffs. The American League Division Series starts tomorrow.

The Quest Begins

Sunday, June 21, 2020

As threatened a little over a week ago, today we started working on taking pictures of Oregon Post Offices.

Because the afternoon was to be a very warm one, we picked a small 80 mile loop that would net us a quartet of local Post Offices – Bonanza, Malin, Merrill and Midland. We are saving our local Klamath Falls P.O. for anytime, it is less than 2 miles away.

Bonanza – One story goes, the Indians came from the direction of Lakeview and spotted the Big Springs. They were so happy to find water that they called the site Bonanza, meaning, “water plenty.” Another possibility is that the white settlers, who arrived in the late 1800’s named the area Bonanza, a Spanish word meaning prosperity. (06/21/20)
Malin – The town’s southern border butts up against the northern California state line. A quiet little farming town that has a fantastic small veteran’s park. (06/21/20)
Merrill – If you look closely at the lower right window of the post office you will see Donna trying unsuccessfully to stay out of the picture. (06/21/20)
Midland – The first of what I suspect may be many post offices that will have the sun directly behind them when we arrive to take their “portraits.” (06/21/20)

Schrodinger’s Lottery Ticket

Friday, June 19, 2020

For practically forever, we have been buying a Mega Millions quick pick ticket that gets us into the bi-weekly drawing for 5 weeks at a time. We routinely end up not winning squat, so every month and a quarter we get an Andrew Jackson out of the ATM, and place that money down on a chance at winning mega-millions.

Thursday last week, we when out for an evening drive and in the middle we stopped at Fred Meyer to use the lottery vending machine and bought our next Mega Millions Lottery Ticket.

The bought ticket hangs on the upper shelf of my computer desk and earlier this week while watching a movie on the PC I noticed there wasn’t one there. My “prop” Mega Lotto Jackpot ticket with the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 & 42 that Hurley won $114 million with was still there, but no real life Mega Millions ticket. By the time I finished watching the movie I had forgotten all about the lottery ticket.

Yesterday, while I finished watching the last episode of Devs, I again noticed the missing lottery ticket. This time I clued Donna in, so we commenced to searching for it. The last time I remember seeing it, it was in the center console of the Miata. That was what we were driving that evening. I put the ticket in there because I didn’t want to put in my pocket where it would get wrinkled. We started there. Not in the center console. It was also not in the glove box. Or the trunk. For thoroughness we looked in the Mini too. We came back upstairs and while I searched every pocket in every item of clothing that I could have been wearing when I bought the ticket, Donna was busy searching in the living area where any piece of paper could be laying. We both came up empty.

Thus we became owners of a Schrodinger’s Lottery Ticket. Because I didn’t think to memorize the 6 numbers on the ticket and there has been two Mega Millions drawings since then, right now we are both winners, and losers, until we somehow happen to find that ticket.

Not wanting to not find the ticket and then read in the local paper of a Klamath Falls individual who purchased a jackpot winning ticket and never coming forward to claim the prize, we went out this evening and bought another ticket.

"Ninety Percent Of Everything Is Crap"
Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, "Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That's because 90% of everything is crud." Oddly, when Sturgeon's Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to 'crap'.
