I am up visiting BIL Scott and family for Christmas. Because I wanted to have my own place to sleep instead of kicking one of the kids out of their bedroom, I rented a VRBO on Lake Bosworth, which is like 4 miles away. Turns out it is the exact same place Donna and I stayed at for a week back in April of 2015.
Back then it was a 2-bedroom, but now it is only a single bedroom; the door to that second bedroom is locked. I asked the host about it, and she told me it was a septic system issue; the previous owner let up to 6 people stay, and that amount overloaded the system.
When I brought the GTI home back on October 11th, I realized it didn’t come with an owner’s manual. The first thing I did was find a PDF of the manual online, and then I headed over to eBay to buy a physical copy of the manual.
Today while running errands I went to put something in the glove box, and it wouldn’t close. There was a kind of shelf at the top of the inside of the box; I took a closer look, and there was something on the shelf. I reached and got ahold of something thick that was bound in leather.
You guessed it, the original owner’s manual…
Typical male behavior: if it isn’t visible front and center, it doesn’t exist.
Friday was supposed to go a little something like this:
1) ride exercise bike
2) eat breakfast
3) grocery shop
4) get a latte
5) go to the coffee klatch
6) start a jigsaw puzzle
I missed #1, did two, three & four, didn’t do five and never made it #6. Instead of the last two I did number seven instead. Not too long after lunch PDX Wraps called and said the car would be done by 2:30ish. So I ordered up an Uber who picked me up a little after 1:30. What would, if traffic free, takes 45 minutes took close to an hour twenty minutes. It took about a half hour until the car was done then I set off home. The weather was dreary and I hoped to find a not so dreary spot to pull over and take a picture of the GTI, but I had no luck with that. By the time I got home an hour and a half after leaving Sherwood it was almost full on dark. So I snapped this one teaser image for now with hopes that a bit of sun materializes in the next couple days.

It has literally rained every minute of today, Today was finally the day for some more Mohs surgery on what was discovered back in August. It was originaly scheduled for late September, but I cancelled it when I thought I had COVID. Then they moved the next appoinment out far enough that it would be still fresh when I drove down to Santa Fe. So I cancelled that one because of a “family emergency.” They are sort of my family…
It was a good thing they took a photo way back in August because it was very hard to find the spot where they did the biopsy. Only thing that saved them was a single freckle. The little spot that was where the basal cell carcinoma was too small for a Mos, so they opted to do a C&E (Curettage and Electrodesiccation), AKA Scrape & Burn. This keeps it just a surface level wound which should heal faster and scar less.
