The West Wing

Quiet Sunday

Sunday, March 16, 2025

Watched a couple of car videos on YouTube, watched an episode of The West Wing and then listened to corresponding podcast episode of The West Wing Weekly and then watched a Red Sox spring training game on MLBTV.

After lunch I headed over near the Troutdale Airport where there are some paved and unpaved trails and took a 3 mile saunter. Now, ripping a bunch of Noir Jazz off of YouTube for listening to in the car when I have to drive somewhere and it’s raining.

After dinner I’ll probably watch an episode or two of something called The Story of Film: An Odyssey. It is fifteen roughly one hour long episodes covering film from all over the world. The first couple on the origins of motion pictures was real interesting, but now it is starting to fracture and my interest is wanning, but it kills some time and it is still interesting in spots.

Wait, Where’d It Go?

Wednesday, January 1, 2025

I’m rewatching The West Wing for maybe like the 20th time and I’ve been watching it on MAX because why not, I’m paying for it just to watch one different show. I’m up to about the middle of season two. This morning when I went to watch an episode there wasn’t anything sitting in my Continue Watching row. The row wasn’t even there. And I checked, by spending way too much time endlessly scrolling up and down looking for it. Eventually it dawned on me to search for it. The only result was for a West Wing Special from 2020 about getting out the vote.

Would have it really have been too much trouble MAX, to let me know you were losing the rights to show? Fortunately, I still have the digital copies of all the episodes.

Spring Has Sprung

Thursday, March 19, 2020

I only have a short time to do a blogging, the actual vernal equinox is at 8:49 PST, a little less than an hour from now. Why is this time important, because on the exact moment of the equinox you can stand an egg on end. And I want to try it…

Comfort TV

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

We tried several other different TV shows on Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime after polishing off both the 2 seasons The Kominsky Method and 6 seasons of Grace and Frankie and finding only one, Episodes, a little ditty with Matt LeBlanc. It wasn’t great television, but it was fairly entertaining and we watched all 5 seasons while not wanting anymore after we were done. With that finished, we were completely out of stuff to watch that was new to us.

So we opted for comfort TV, we reverted back to watching a show we’ve already watched all the way through about a have a dozen times before, The West Wing. In the past week we have watched 3 complete seasons and the first 6 episodes of season 4. That’s 73 episodes or approximately 54 hours of TV. Hey, it gets dark early out here, what else do we really have to do.

TDTVS Redux

Sunday, August 5, 2018

Well it is happening again, we are catching up to the episode of The West Wing Weekly that Hrishi & Josh discussing. They posted 5.09: Abu El Banat last Wednesday and we have now finished 5.06: Disaster Relief. We have been watching an episode a night and they are covering an episode a week, so it was inevitable that we would. There is no way we would start over again for a third time, so we have decided to just watch one episode a week. Each new podcast episode is released on Wednesday, so we are going to watch our The West Wing TV episode on Tuesday night.

If we do that, what are we going to watch the other six nights a week? There are very few TV shows that we both enjoy and wouldn’t mind watching all over again. And it would be nice if there was a podcast for the show to listen to the following day to mirror The West Wing experience. Then, in an brilliant bit of internet serendipity, I happen on an article about Evangeline Lilly talking about being cornered into filming a nude scene on the TV show LOST. She had given an interview discussing it on a podcast called The Lost Boys. Ooh, ooh, LOST was a show we really liked back in the day.

We are going to rewatch TDTVS. Thursday night we watched Episode 1.01: The Pilot – Part 1. Friday we listened to its corresponding The Lost Boys podcast episode. Hmmm, this is not as satisfying as The West Wing Weekly podcast. The premise is cool, it is one fellow’s 1st time watching the show and the other’s 7th time, but I’m betting it is a language thing, these guys are speaking English. They are in England, so it is the King’s English and one is slightly harder to understand than the other. Both of their voices are kind of similar too, so that doesn’t help either. We have now watched the first 6 episodes of LOST and still only listened to just the one of the podcast. We should probably try at least one or two more episodes of the podcast before giving up entirely. Maybe tomorrow.

"Ninety Percent Of Everything Is Crap"
Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, "Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That's because 90% of everything is crud." Oddly, when Sturgeon's Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to 'crap'.
