Now What?

Thursday, January 12, 2006

Last night while listening to my new favorite internet radio station, it began to do random, but frequent dropping out. Tonight when I cranked up RadioIO Eclectic it was still doing it. Dang.

Tried RadioParadise and for the last 309:20 it has been rock solid.

To quote my favorite pirate:

Jack Sparrow: Funny ol’ world, innit?

Choices, Choices, Choices

Friday, August 19, 2005

The budget has been announced for Glorification Of The Annivesary Of My Nascency.

Barbossa: There be a lot of long words in there, mister. We’re naught but humble pirates. What is it that you mean?

Donna has allowed me to spend $200 as I see fit for my birthday.

I have a couple of ideas that I’d like, but I’m not sure I want them bad enough to pull the trigger.

Item 1) Bronze tint on the Miata’s windows. Upside – keeps the interior cooler on sunny days. Downside – On 99.9% of all sunny days the top is down thereby negating any tinting. The top is only up a lot in the winter when the tinting isn’t needed.

Item 2) Rear lip spoiler. Upside – generates increased downforce at triple digit speeds and being non-OEM ensures some individuality. Downside – not so sure it won’t enhance the very thing I’m trying to disguise, the little duck tail hump on the trunklid.

I’m open for suggestions.

For those of you who would to get me a little something, but can’t afford either of the above two items, more cost friendly items can be found on my Amazon Wishlist.

Any Man Who Falls Behind, Is Left Behind

Sunday, July 17, 2005

Decided to go ahead and wash the car. I couldn’t use the excuse that it might rain anymore, I’ve used it for the past week or so, and the weather forecast was for more of the same for the next tens days…

I knew I shouldn’t have watched the game. The FRS lost to the Yankees tonight on ESPN. They lost on Thursday as I watched on ESPN2 and then they lost Saturday afternoon on FOX with me on the couch. The Sox won big, 17-1, on Friday when they weren’t on TV, I didn’t even listen. So I shouldn’t have watched them on TV tonight, they probably would have won the game.

The only thing that saved the night was right after the game I found TDPM playing and it was only an hour in. 🙂

Barbossa: Why thank ye, Jack.
Jack Sparrow: You’re welcome.
Barbossa: Oh, not you. We named the monkey Jack.

Started down, went up, still up.

I’m Right Proud Of Myself

Saturday, July 2, 2005

This afternoon while surfing through the movies channels looking for something to watch I came upon That Damn Pirate Movie (I guess I need to add TDPM to the acronym list), it was about 45 minutes into it, and I managed to not get sucked into watching it. I only stuck around for about 5 seconds, but had I stayed, say 30 seconds or so, I bet I would have been hooked.

The Curse Of That Damn Pirate Movie

Monday, June 20, 2005

While we await the start of the Tour de France and the real reason we are plunking down an extra $15 a month for digital cable, we get to enjoy several “movie channels.” A half dozen Starz channels and eight Encore channels of which there is a lot of cross pollenation. I always check to see what is playing in case there might be something interesting and usually there isn’t, but one of the movies in the rotation this last month or so is one I can’t help but to stop and watch. I enjoy it so much that just tonight I broke away from watching the West Wing Monday Marathon (and we all know how much I love that show) to enjoy watching it for the umpteenth time.

Jack Sparrow: You, sailor.
Mr. Gibbs: Cotton, sir.
Jack Sparrow: Mr. Cotton. Do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and almost certain death?
[pause]
Jack Sparrow: Mr. Cotton. Answer, man.
Mr. Gibbs: He’s a mute, sir. Poor devil had his tongue cut out, so he trained the parrot to talk for him. No one’s yet figured how.
Jack Sparrow: Mr. Cotton’s… parrot. Same question.
Parrot: [squawk] Wind in the sails. Wind in the sails.
Mr. Gibbs: Mostly, we figure, that means ‘yes.’

TV Hypnosis

Saturday, May 21, 2005

I watched most of the Red Sox – Braves game on TV tonight. It has been raining virtually all night in Beantown. Sometimes hard and sometimes light, but every time you are looking at the TV screen you see the rain coming down. So when I get up to use the restroom or swap the clothes from the washer to the dryer between innings, I am shocked that I don’t see rain out the windows of my house.

Barbossa: First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement, so I must do nothin’. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the Pirate’s Code to apply, and you’re not. And thirdly, the Code is more what you’d call “guidelines” than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner.

I got sucked in to watching “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” this afternoon. I own the DVD and can watch it in widescreen glory anytime and I never seem to pop it in the player, but if I stumble on to it playing on the TV I’m glued to it. I just hope next year’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” if half as good as this one was.

Arrrr. Avast Mateys, I Missed It

Monday, September 20, 2004

Yesterday was International Talk Like A Pirate Day and it totally slipped right on by. Had I known I probably wouldn’t have talked like one much. Mainly because I pretty much used up all my known pirate talk in the title of this post. But I might have watched the Pirates of the Caribbean on DVD.

Elizabeth Swan: Captain Barbossa, I am here to negotiate the cessation of hostilities against Port Royal.
Barbossa: There be a lot of long words in there, miss. We’re naught but humble pirates. What is it that you want?
Elizabeth Swan: I want you to leave and never come back.
[crew laughs]
Barbossa: I’m disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means “no.”

sturgeon’s law

"Ninety Percent Of Everything Is Crap"
Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, "Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That's because 90% of everything is crud." Oddly, when Sturgeon's Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to 'crap'.
