Winter Is For The Birds

Winter Is For The Birds

On Thursday while we waited for Joan to pack her “Go Bag” I stood at her patio door gazing out at the ice that had accumulated on the patch of trees on the other side of her backyard fence. Suddenly something large and brown landed on a limb. Unlike the other 99.9% of wildlife that surprise me when I have a camera handy, this bird stayed posed while I had time to pull the camera from my back pocket, turn it on, zoom in, focus and press the shutter. It didn’t stay long enough for a second picture though.

There was no sign of winter around here anymore today, it was a nice sunny, warm afternoon, so I washed the gray road film that accompanies any snow or ice event off the Purple Whale. I was going to do it the easy drive-through-car-wash way, but there was a really long queue at Lulu’s and because I hate waiting in line more than physical labor I returned home and broke out the bucket and sponge.

It Is Only A Fantasy

Sunday, November 17, 2013

After the early afternoon NFL games Team Wrangler had 10 times as many points as the Purple Whales:
Its Only A Fantasy

After the the late afternoon games the Purple Whales had made a near miraculous comeback to take the lead:
Its Only A Fantasy 2

The lead was guaranteed not to last as Team Wrangler still had 2 players left, one tonight and one more on Monday. But I expected it to last more than 3 minutes into the first quarter on the Sunday Night game. But it was erased by a 54 yard field goal by Denver’s kicker, Matt Prator, which was worth 5 points:
Its A Fantasy 3

The Emperor got a wash yesterday, taken for a nice fall afternoon drive before being hidden away in the garage. The Purple Whale got a bath this afternoon and then huddled under the carport trying to avoid the impending sprinkles.

1 Angry Owner

Sunday, September 22, 2013

After a promising start to the day the Purple Whales faltered and are now a sure lock for being the only team in the EZEFFL without a victory. Right now I trail by one point and my opponent has a kicker going on Monday night. The one in a million shot is that Denver gets shutout or Matt Prater misses as many field goals as he gets points after. Like I said last week: No big thing, every team makes our league’s playoffs.

Just like last Sunday I planned to wash the dead bugs of the Purple Whale and didn’t because I spent the afternoon parked on the couch with the FRS on the big TV and an NFL game in a small window, along with ESPNs Fantasy Cast running in another, on the laptop.

After going to Five Guys for a birthday burger (Thanks Joan) Donna and I went to Lu Lu’s and rode through the automatic car wash in the Sonata.

Tuesday Update

Shiny

The team car of the Purple Whales from the End Zone Entourage Fantasy Football League got its annual preseason wash and wax on Sunday afternoon. The NFL season starts in 3 weeks and then there won’t be any time on Sunday afternoons for that sort of thing.

I haven’t read the Jack Reacher novel Killing Floor before because I would have definitely remembered it. It is set in the fictional town of Margrave, Georgia which is described as about an hour south of Atlanta, but at one point our hero travels to Augusta to search for a missing character that figures big in the plot. The author has obliviously never been to Augusta and did minimal research, because from his description I wouldn’t have recognized the town. This I would have remembered…

My suspicions were correct on the purpose of the clear lucite sign holders. This morning my bathroom appropriate magazine ads were gone and were replaced with those same First Responders recruitment posters. The plant nurse will be holding informational meeting on joining the few the proud towards the end of next week. If those flyers are still up at the beginning of next month I think I’ll replace them with some U.S. Armed Force posters.

That Was Expected

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

The folks at Taylor Hyundai do a really nice little thing when ever you bring them your car in for service, before they give it back they vacuum the interior and wash the exterior. The Purple Whale looked really good each time we walked by it on our 3 daily walks during breaks, but the 30% chance of rain predicted for the CSRA today fell 100% on it later this afternoon.

Kitchen Before & After Photos

Saturday, April 20, 2013

From February 2nd:
Here is our soon to be remodeled kitchen. The cabinets are original to the house. As is the yellow tile counter top and back splash. The floor is currently covered in dark blue commercial grade carpet and there is at least 2 layers of vinyl under that, who knows what is further down. Currently the dishwasher is the old fashioned manual kind.

If all goes according to plan in about a dozen days this will be an empty room, maybe even just a skeleton. D-Day is February 11th.

Here is our newly remodeled kitchen. The cabinets are Shenandoah Breckenridge in Maple Spice. The counter top is Caledonia granite and the back splash is 3 x 6 white tiles in a subway pattern. The floor is 12 x 12 light gray tile laid in a staggered pattern. The dishwasher is a GE Top Control Dishwasher with Steam Cleaning.

If all goes according to plan we will never remodel another kitchen.

This morning I washed off the Miata car cover to get it clean in the hopes I can sell it for a few bucks. I placed it on top of the Emperor to spray it off then left it on to dry. This afternoon I removed the cover and washed the car underneath. Then I washed rinsed off the Sonata too.

Started down, went up, still up.

Disappearing Dumpster

No Dumpster

For the first time in 61 days the Emperor could park in his Throne Room. It was supposed to be gone last Friday, and then it was supposed to be yesterday, so quite frankly we were surprised to find it actually gone when we pulled into the driveway after work today. Even though pine pollen season isn’t exactly over, the Miata got a washing before being driven into the garage.

We have been driving the Miata for the last couple weeks, so the Sonata has been just parked under the awning gathering a layer of pine pollen. To keep both siblings happy, I was going to wash the Purple Whale too, but dinner was nearly ready, so Donna insisted that I put the wash bucket away and after eating we’d run the Sonata through Lu Lu’s, a local car wash. It felt like cheating and it cost $10, but man that was easy.

Started up, went down, went up, still up.

sturgeon’s law

"Ninety Percent Of Everything Is Crap"
Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, "Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That's because 90% of everything is crud." Oddly, when Sturgeon's Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to 'crap'.
