Feel the Bernies!

Not only am I discussing politics on my blog, but now I’ve gone and donated to an actual politician. I just donated $20 to a Kickstarter fund to create a Bernie Sanders “Action” Figure. If funded they are going to donate one of my dollars to his campaign.

It will be fully funded1 on March 30th and they are supposed to ship in July, just in time for the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia. Sure hope by then he is not just a footnote in the 2016 election.

For all you Hilary supporters you can get an Action Figure of her right now because these are the same folks who created one for her campaign back in 2008 and they are still available on their site – FCTRY.

Those of you who live in one of only a handful of states that the personal use of marijuana is perfectly legal2 you might want to consider the Burners for Bernie set of homemade ceramic pipes. A portion of the proceeds from this item also go the support the candidate.

1. It has far exceeded the goal already.
2. Which Mr. Sanders says he’ll change when elected.

Political Quandary

Sunday, February 14, 2016

Well even if you don’t watch the news or read the paper, if you live in South Carolina you know it is primary season because your phone is ringing off the hook with calls from candidates, candidates and “their” PACs. Our ringer is off, so every one of those calls goes straight to the answering machine to be dealt with later.

All the calls are for Republican candidates, the Democrats have been silent so far, perhaps they are waiting for next week. You see, for some reason the two primaries are one week apart. First up is the Republican Primary this coming Saturday the 20th followed by the Democratic Primary on the 27th. The cool thing is that they are both open primaries, i.e. open to anyone. You can only vote in one of them though.

I’m registered as having no party affiliation, so in some states I wouldn’t be able to vote in any primary, but here in SC I can vote in either of them. There in lies the quandary. Should I vote in the Republican Primary for anyone but Trump? Or should I wait a week and vote for Sanders?

Feel the Bern

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

I’m not sure how I got there now, but somehow I followed a link and watched the second of the six parts of this conversation. Then I went back and watched the first part. Then I watched the rest. Apparently I’m Bernie’s choir because he was preaching to me, right to me. Does he have a chance in getting elected? No, probably not (and they touch on that in the first few minutes of the third part), but he should be.

Clinton Museum, Fayetteville, AR

We got a little lost in Fayetteville looking for a way out of town after the Courthouse photo and stumbled on this unassuming house. It wasn’t open yet, so we couldn’t go in to drop off the Trump for America bumper stickers.

We did the loop to Eureka Springs in the morning and in the afternoon we washed some clothes and then visited the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. I didn’t get most of the modern stuff, but I did enjoy the visit. Afterwards we walked a bit of the attached trail system.

Tomorrow it is back on the road.

123rd-anniversary-of-yosemite-national-park-Google Doodle

In a nice bit of irony, the image above is today’s Google Doodle in celebration of Yosemite National Park’s 123rd Anniversary. If you wanted to go and celebrate at the actual park today – oops, can’t, it’s closed.

Gary Johnson For President

Friday, September 21, 2012

Eight years ago I blogged that I was going to vote for Wes?ley K. Clark for President. Admittedly, it was sort of tongue-in-cheek, as the only real reason I had was that Mr. Clark drove a Miata. And I never actually got to vote for him as he didn’t win the Democratic nomination. But now…

…for the second time, Mr. Miata is throwing the weight of his political might behind a candidate for the highest* office in the land, the Libertarian Party’s* Gary Johnson. This time it is different, as Mr. Johnson will be on the ballot and based on my dissatisfaction of our current two party system with their antagonistic, my way or no way, treating of each other I will probably punch Gary Johnson’s ticket.

*If you read this online The Atlantic article you’ll see that I mean these two words literally and is the icing on cake of a Gary Johnson Presidency.

Clark for President

Tuesday, September 16, 2003

Just found out who I’m voting for in the next Presidential election…retired Gen. Wesley K. Clark. That is if he gets the Democratic nomination. And here is why: read the first line in the 7th from the last paragraph of this article. (the article is long gone, but it mentioned he owned a Miata)

The Miata is spending the night at a sleep-over. It is parked behind Rader Mazda in Augusta, awaiting a timing belt/water pump transplant surgery. Tune in tomorrow to see the money spent figure increase by 50%.

sturgeon’s law

"Ninety Percent Of Everything Is Crap"
Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, "Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That's because 90% of everything is crud." Oddly, when Sturgeon's Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to 'crap'.
