Maupin To Phoenix

Maupin - 97037
Maupin - An interesting little town on US197 of maybe 500 people that straddles the Deschutes River in the northern part of the state. (07/01/22)

McMinnville - 97128
McMinnville - The post office was just another post office, but I do thank the town for letting me discover that the Spruce Goose had its own museum in McMinnville. (4/13/25)

Medford - 97501
Medford - Big town like Medford and you would think that they could spring to put there name on the outside of the building. (10/03/21)

Merlin - 97532
Merlin - A new railroad station in this location in 1883 was called "Jump Off Joe" for a local stream. The station was renamed "Merlin" in October 1886. The name came from a railroad civil engineer who named it for the merlins (a type of falcon) he saw in the area. "McAllister" post office was established about a mile north of Merlin in 1885, then moved to the vicinity of the railroad station and renamed Merlin in 1891. (10/04/21)

Mill City - 97360
Mill City - This is a fairly young city in that it was incorporated in 1941 and it was named such because of the two large lumber mills here. (4/6/25)

Milton-Freewater - 97862
Milton-Freewater - To dash or not to dash. I saw several signs that hyphenated the town name and just as many that did not. (8/16/25)

Mitchell - 97750
Mitchell There was no parking out front, and this lot held 4 slots, but it is narrower than this photo makes it look. Even in the Miata I had to back up, move forward a bit, and back up again so I could get out. (9/2/25)

Molalla - 97038
Molalla - The town was named after the Molalla River, which in turn was named for the Molala, a Native American tribe that inhabited the area. (3/2/25)

Monmouth - Like Scio, this town took its name from the town the early settlers came from, in this case Monmouth, Ohio. (7/12/25)

Mount Hood Parkdale - Although located in Parkdale, this post office services both Hood River & Parkdale which both have a population of about 300 each. (6/29/25)

Mount Vernon - 97865
Mount Vernon There was no good spot to park the car to get it directly into the photo, but if you look to the left of the "blue box," you'll see its reflection. I did this once before for Midland over 5 years and 275 post offices ago. (9/2/25)

Mulino - 97042
Mulino - "Mulino" is a corruption of the Spanish word molino, or mill, and was chosen for the name when postal authorities objected that "Molino" was easily confused with nearby Molalla. (3/2/25)

Murphy - 97533
Murphy - It was over a month ago when I took this photo, and I can remember absolutely nothing aboutit. (9/21/25)

Myrtle Creek - 97457
Myrtle Creek - This P.O. must be the town gathering place as every spot anywhere near it was full and there were also several people gathered outside just talking. We stopped again the curb in a no parking zone, I hopped out, took this and drove off. (10/04/21)

Nehalem - 97131
Nehalem - The sign in front of me says "No Parking," but I couldn't park in the official spots out front because they were full of cars going to the bakery next door. (10/19/25)

Newberg - 97132-2928
Newburg - Now this is a building worth of a Post Office. The historic post office was constructed in 1935-6 with federal Treasury Department funds. The building, which houses an example of New Deal artwork inside, is still in operation. (4/13/25)

New Pine Creek - 97635
New Pine Creek - This post office is like maybe 20 yards from the California border. The city of New Pine Creek is half in Oregon and half in our southern neighbor state, but there is no post office in California. (3/30/25)

Newport - 97365

Oakridge - 97463
Oakridge - There was someone parked right where I am now when I first saw the post office so I slowly made a long slow circle around the block. When I got back, ta da! (3/29/25)

Oceanside - 97134
Oceanside - The fellow leaning over on the right was packing up his windsurfing parachute-like kite. (10/19/25)

Oregon City - 97045
Oregon City - The signage tells me this was a early 2000s Post Office, but the building looks nothing like a Post Office of any era. Maybe the building was for an entirely different company that went bankrupt so Uncle Sam repurposed it. (11/17/24)
