Life of Brian

It was listed in my Netflix spreadsheet as my having rented it back in May 2000, but could not for the life of me remember seeing it. The write-up sounded interesting so I borrowed this movie from a co-worker and we watched it again tonight. 5 minutes in to it I remembered the movie and remembered why I didn’t remember seeing it, we only watched about 5 minutes of it back then. Right about the point where Kirstie Alley effects a Minnesotian accent. This time we stuck it out and frankly we were right the first time. Great cast, but totaly wasted here. I have now seen most of these so called mockumentaries and if you have seen Spinal Tap, stop there, the rest pale in comparison.

Used to be that what you looked like didn’t much matter if you were a musician, if your music was beautiful, that was all it took. Look at Mick Jagger (then or now) or Merle Haggard. The 4 mopheads from Liverpool were in need of serious dental work. But now with MTV, etc. you have to look good to make it now a days.

The latest Rolling Stone magazine came in the mail and there on the cover is a picture of Shania Twain in a cheap trash looking outfit set on stun. The verbiage reads, “Shania Twain. She knows what you like…” Boy howdy. We want good looking women, scantily clad, singing just to us. I’m as susceptible to this as the next man. I’ll never forget the first time I saw her (I think first) video where she is wearing that red dress singing about boots or something, I watched a lot of CMT waiting to see that again, and I don’t really like country music.

I’m as guilty as the next for bringing on the death of ugly singers. And I’d like to apologize.

Is this really the sixth time this show has run? And this time, to spice it up some, we have the guys vs. the gals. It could have been worse, they went through a lot of other scenarios before picking that one:

I got in the office football pool this weekend. I’m a big spender so I got one square for each game. $2 entry and they pay out for $50 for each quarter. If you are really lucky you could win all 4 quarters and pocket big bucks. My numbers for the Tampa Bay/Philadelphia game were 2 and 2. Two is like the worst possible number and I got it both ways. For the Tennessee/Oakland game I got 5 and 6. While six is not a bad number, 5 is the second worst number right after 2. In spite of my lame luck this week I just know I can turn it around next week for the Stupor Bowl – $10 entry fee with each quarter being worth $250.

I think I would love “The Osbournes” if I could actually here Ozzy say fuck instead of bleep. Nothing ruins a good a movie/show on TV faster than bleeps instead of swear words. Plus I think I need to figure out is Ozzy’s brain that addled that he can’t speak coherently most of the time? Or is he just doing a parody of what Spinal Tap would be like 20 years later?

Update – Turns out “The Osbournes” season 1 will be out in early March. I just hope Netflix carries the uncensored version.
