A Picture Is Worth A 1,000 Limbs

Focus

I was trying to take a picture of my just cleaned up front lawn through the kitchen window and the camera must have focused on a spec on the outside of the exterior pane. Looks kinda neat, almost like there is dust on your monitor.

We stayed a little late at work and stopped at Kroger to pick up a couple of things which made our arrival at home nearly perfect. As we came up the side street to our house we passed and saw several dump trucks full of tree debris. Not wanting to be disappointed we kept our expectations in check, but as we turned onto our street the road seemed a lot wider than it had been in about 6 weeks. They were cleaning our street. As we got closer to home it looked like they were right in front of our house. They were, but there was still an opening to our driveway, so I zipped in. Right after I parked a dump truck took up station blocking the street and a guy in a super-sized bobcat picked up the stuff in front our, and the house across the street’s, house.

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

This was yesterday’s Clone Club email:

Subj: A 90 Second Season 1 Recap, 4 Season 2 Optical Illusion Posters & More

T-minus 25 days…

BBC America has put together a quick (literally and figuratively) recap of Season 1 – YouTube

Optical Illusion Posters for the new Season to print out and put on your bedroom wall – Nerdist

An Orphan Black Insider featuring Tatiana talking about the show interspaced with clips from last season and the upcoming one – YouTube

A New Special on BBC America called Orphan Black: The #Cloneversation! will premiere on Saturday, April 12 at 8/7c . The show will be hosted by Wil Wheaton and the one-hour special will cover all-things awesome in Season One and offer an exclusive look at the making of Season Two. Yesterday was the last day to submit fan art or videos that could get used on the show – BBC America

And if you are in Canada, starting on March 29th, Space.ca, the channel that shows Orphan Black, will be streaming Season 1 until a couple days after the premier of Season 2.

You switched the files in your special box for porno DVDs of Big Boob Blowies! – Alison Hendrix

Here is something that I found today and I’m not sure deserves its own email or can it hold out until next week? Inside Orphan Black with the co-creators Graeme Manson and John Fawcett and in a clip from the new season there lies a major spoiler in reference to last season’s cliff hanger ending. – You Tube

41,000 Something Or Others

Monday, March 24, 2014

I apologize, I usually have some sort of cute total of something that may or may not have happened on the day when a car in possession passes through a thousand mile increment, but today I have none. Today after work Donna and I drove both cars to West Columbia and passing through Wagener on the drive there the Purple Whale ticked past the 41,000 mile mark.

The Emperor is going to a warrior’s retreat and hanging with a bunch of Miata race cars for the next few days. The folks at Panic Motorsports have agreed to see if they can get rid of his annoying 1st gear standing start random stumble.

I can’t swear to it, but this little foible seemed to start not long after the 125,000 mile major service about 2-1/2 years ago. At first it was very random, it didn’t seem to matter whether the weather was hot or cold, if it was day or night or even if the car was warmed up or not, but its happening was few and far between. Then the Sonata joined the family and the Miata got driven less, so the little stumble was even less frequent. As time progressed it became more frequent in rearing its ugly head, I became more adept at sensing its arrival and compensating by slipping the clutch and goosing the gas to to avoid bucking at standing starts. I started considering the stumble part of the car’s patina, a bit of character that is the hallmark of owning a true sports car.

For the last few months it was still random, but it was much more frequent, so I finally opted to have an expert look at it. A couple of weeks ago I called Steve at Panic and worked out a time that was amenable to the both of us and of course, since then, the Emperor has been acting up less. Only happened a couple of times on the Savannah trip this weekend and only once today, at the DD drive thru, but it still needed looking at, so look here.

Started down, went up, back down, up again, still up.

Fun With Reply All

Monday, March 24, 2014

This morning the woman who has held the job since the begining here at the Valve Store(TM), from back when it was called the Plant Manager’s Secretary, sent out a little email missive to the plant’s distribution list:

It’s been great working with all of you. This is my last week here at ASCO. My last day will be Friday, March 28. My replacements name is Hannah B. Please make her feel welcomed.

You can now send Hannah everything that you have been sending to me. She will also be booking the conference rooms.

I’m going to miss all of you!!

Kathy D
Operations Administrative Assistant

Not long after, the typical well wisher hit the reply all button:

Kathy, we will miss you as well, thank you for all the support you have given me over the years

Larry

Then we got this one:

Good morning everyone! I found a pack of gum on my way out this morning. If you lost it I have it. Thx skh

Next came one from someone who was going to miss her very, very much, but didn’t know how to spell her name.

Cathy I will miss you so much
Doris b stockroom

Then the writer of the pack of gum email tries to recall it (which never, ever works.) I can’t tell whether that person thought they were replying to a different email, batcrap crazy or brilliant, because if they were offering themselves up as an example of the foibles of hitting Reply All, it worked, as no further emails came to the distribution list.

Image Manipulation

Sunday, March 23, 2014

I have added a question to the “Ask A Question About The Challenge”section of the Motoring Challenge forum relating to a photo from yesterday and a photo from today:

How much can I “photoshop” an image that I am submitting? I’m not planning and cutting and pasting my car into a backdrop of a Challenge requirement or anything…

City-Yemassee

On this image, when we got home and looked at it on the computer monitor, we noticed I was holding the Motoring Challenge Guide against the door of the car using just my middle finger. So I copied the tip of that finger and pasted it so as to appear that I was using two fingers to hold the Guide.

Junkyard

On today’s Junkyard photo, I thought I could make the car, Donna and Guide stand out from the clutter a little more if I removed all the color from the picture, except for on them.

Junkyard

I uploaded the original color photo as I ended up liking it better anyway, but it got me wondering just how much manipulation is permissible.

Claire, Mark & Us

For the second time in a little more than a month we visited the city of Savannah, GA. In February it was a side trip & diversion in our escape from Ice-ageddon. This time it was to catch up with recently wed (6/13) friends Claire and Mark. They were in town from Lexington, VA for the big music festival, so we drove down to spend a couple hours walking around town, eating lunch and watching maritime traffic on the Savannah River with them.

On the way down, and more so on the way back, we grabbed a couple items off the Motoring Challenge checklist.

Started down , went up, back down, still down.

sturgeon’s law

"Ninety Percent Of Everything Is Crap"
Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, "Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That's because 90% of everything is crud." Oddly, when Sturgeon's Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to 'crap'.
