Wearing My Name On My Side Edition of SORT
As of Monday, December 16, 2024 at 6:00 PM pacific time:

Sport Off-Road Touring
1960 Ford Galaxie Starliner 1951 Dodge Power Wagon 1949 Ford F-1 Panel Truck
Today’s theme was sparked by an auction of an illuminated PORSCHE sign. I was going to go look for other car make signs to fit into the other 2 categories, but unfortunately that auction was about to be over, so I did the next best thing, or so I think, of cars with something painted on their sides.

Here is what last week’s cars sold for, or bid to (if the reserve was not met):
Sport: 1972 Porsche 914 Bid to $131,000 on 12/12/24
Off-Road: 1984 Jeep CJ-7 Bid to $12,750 on 12/11/24
Touring: 1993 Buick Roadmaster Sold for $8,150 on 12/11/24

Missed Opportunity

Sunday, December 15, 2024

Every year we would always get Christmas gifts delivered from Donna’s 2 older brothers from the usual suspects, Entenmann’s, Harry & David or Swiss Colony. This year Steve branched out and sent a pound of pistachios from Alamogordo, NM. I finished them off in under a week. Jim and wife Linda’s arrived today.

Around 10:30 this morning the front doorbell rang. Huh? Outside was a FedEx truck and he had a package that needed to be signed for. Now I’m really curious. Turns out it was a Christmas present from Big Brother (in-law) Jim. I had to sign because it was a pair of Harry & David wines.

So like he did for me, a text with the photo of the fresh wreath I sent, I took a picture of one of the bottles opened, next to a glass of the wine. Then to be cute, well you can see in the picture. Right after I hit send, I realized I missed an opportunity to make that text/photo even better.

I should have added a plate with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on it to the still life.

Unintentionally Dirty Laundry Product

Saturday, December 14, 2024

If there is one thing I really hate (One thing? Really, who do you think you’re kidding?) it’s opening the dryer door to find a sheet wrapping everything into a giant ball of laundry. When I saw an ad for this thing somewhere on the web or in my instagram account I had to have it.

Turns out it worked as advertised, but it was a pain putting the sheets into the thing. On the YouTube instructional video they get it hooked up in like 25 seconds, it was taking me a couple minutes. I’m sure it was probably closer to a minute, but it just felt a lot longer.

After a couple three more laundry days I quit using them, it was taking too long. I mean how many times did that big ball of clothes thing happen anyway? Faithful readers will know what happens next, it didn’t take very long until I pulled another beanbag chair shaped object out of the dryer and go right back to using my wad defenders.

“Why is it dirty,” you ask? See definition #1 in the Urban Dictionary.

Unintentionally Humorous Warning

Thursday, December 12, 2024

I bought a piece of wall art from good ol’ Amazon for over the bed in the freshly painted guest bedroom. Inside the package they kindly included some wall hanging hardware in a plastic bag with a big warning on it.

Tips

Wednesday, December 11, 2024

The last time Donna and I flew anywhere was June of 2019. It was when we came out here to see if we really wanted to live in the mythical spreadsheet city of Klamath Falls. When we packed up our household goods in South Carolina to come west we donated the suitcase.

The next time I fly will be 5-1/2 years from then. In January I’ll be visiting my New Mexican friend, Sally. I needed a valise. I actually did some In Real Life shopping at the local Kohl’s and then I transitioned to my good buddy Jeff’s website where I found something suitable (no pun intended.) It got plopped onto the back porch with a thud this afternoon, one day early.

When I opened it up and started unzipping all the storage areas a cad fell to the floor. It said TIPS in the upper corner with a lot of kanji characters in the middle. Great, thanks for nothing, I can’t read that. Wait a minute, you can ask Google to translate a web page, I wonder if they can work that trick with images? Geez, Boomer, you could do that since 2010. Hover below to see the “translation.”

Little Boy Blue Edition of SORT
As of Monday, December 9, 2024 at 8:00 PM pacific time:

Sport Off-Road Touring
1972 Porsche 914 1984 Jeep CJ-7 1993 Buick Roadmaster
The distinctive interior triggered a memory. This car last sold on BaT in May 2020 and I had used it then as my Daily when I was doing Track, Daily, Crush instead of SORT. The first word in the the title’s listing is modified, one look at the header image of this vehicle you can clearly see it aint stock. If you limo tint all the back windows you could sleep back there and instead of Overlanding you would be using it to do Overhighwaying.

Here is what last week’s cars sold for, or bid to (if the reserve was not met):
Sport: 1985 Beck 550 Spyder – Sold for $47,000 on 12/4/24
Off-Road: 1968 International Harvester Scout 800 – Sold for $24,500 on 12/5/24
Touring: 1927 Ford Model T Touring – Sold for $5,300 on 12/4/24

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

Sunday, December 8, 2024

Please read today’s post title in the voice of Jan C. Gabriel, the Chicago-area motorsport announcer who is best known for popularizing this ubiquitous motorsport phrase.

Today’s sunrise was set for just after 7:30 AM, so I set my alarm for seven o’clock. Unfortunately I woke fully up at around quarter to six. So, I brushed my teeth, packed up and got in the car. The first 2 post office were photographed in pretty much in the dark. Not really an issue, during the South Carolina post office roundup I took around a dozen in the dark and several more at dusk or dawn, and I kind of really like them.

Salem – I set the alarm for 7:00 AM, but I woke up at quarter to six, so I got up and got going. This is Salem’s main Post Office and 1 of 4 with the Zip Code of 97301. (12/8/24)
Vista Station – It was still dark for this Post Office and I cold have used the other photo I took, but I liked being able to put the sign in the shot. (12/8/24)
Pringle Park Plaza – The sun was up enough now, but mostly because I had breakfast between post office #2 of the day and this one. (12/8/24)

West Salem – This post office was right on the other side of the Willamette River, so it was a quick bridge crossing back and forth. (12/8/24)
Hollywood – When you say Hollywood, CA I think movie stars, but when you say Hollywood, OR I’ll think homeless people living in a rat-trap looking RV that is parked off frame to the right. (12/8/24)
Salem Hollywood DCU – The last of the seven Salem Post Offices. Time to head north and home. (12/8/24)

Donald – This town of around a thousand people must all sleep in on Sundays until it was time to go to church because there was no a soul stirring at 10 minutes to nine in the morning. (12/8/24)

sturgeon’s law

"Ninety Percent Of Everything Is Crap"
Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, "Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That's because 90% of everything is crud." Oddly, when Sturgeon's Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to 'crap'.
