Oh Yes My Shirt Is Here! Cafepress delivered today. It is long sleeved in preparation for cooler weather that is about a month and a half away. I will probably wear it around the house first because we keep the AC on real good. But first it gets washed, if you are lucky I might model it for you later this week.

Went back to the Seinfeld & Superman site today and noticed something I missed the first time, a Playbill on the table with the film canisters. If you click on that you get a flash animation sing-a-long of the song “Oh Yes Wyoming!” If you though I was having problems dislodging the song from my head before, it won’t go away for about a month now, I just got through listening to it several times so I could copy down the lyrics.

They started out as high priced LARGE chrome wheels with an additional disc on the outside. The disc spun independently of the wheel, so when the car/truck came to a stop, the wheels looked like they were still spinning. These wheels cost a great deal of money, thousands a piece. Then came add-on spinners to place over your existing dubs, reducing the cost to a mere several hundred per wheel. Not to be left out of this craze the po’ folks demanded a low price alternative. Ever accommodating, car aftermarket manufacturers came through, we now have chrome-like plastic hub caps that are spinners, available at a Wal-Mart near you.
Saw some cheapo ones on a POS green Hyundai this afternoon (one spinning, the other not, on the side we could see.) Donna summed it up perfectly, “They are like baseball cards in the spokes of a bicycle, for adults.”
I’ve had quite enough of Bob Roll. The guy is annoying for TV. I’ve read some of his stuff and enjoyed it (although now that I’ve seen and heard him, I may have trouble with this in the future.) The gap between his front teeth is a distraction and all those exaggerated hand gestures are a distraction too. It is pronounced Tour Duh France not Tour Dee France, that may be OK at home, but when you are doing a nationwide television show at least try and pronounce it right.

The Master’s Miata Club was “hosting” a cruise in at the Sno Cap Drive-In in North Augusta tonight. We had about 8 of our cars and a smattering of other cars in attendance. About halfway through the evening, in pulled a blue Miata that wasn’t a club member. Hey, wait a minute, that car looks familiar. Sure enough, it was our old car. I went over and said hello to the new owner Shannon Vick and her son. She and he were in North Augusta and he suggested going to the Sno Cap for something to eat. They had no clue that we would be there. Boy that sure is a pretty car.

When the Master’s Miata Club‘s pool party that has been on the schedule for June 26th for like forever, got postponed a few weeks ago, I felt there needed to be an event that weekend, so I tossed out a Big Mo Drive-In trip. I received an email last night from a member of the Low Country Miata Club telling me that they had planned an overnight event to come up here to go to the drive-in the same night. We are now in the process of trying to work on maybe doing something together before the movie.
We don’t know what will be showing the weekend we are going because they never know until the Monday before what movies they’ll get. Shrek2 and Mean Girls were shown there the last 2 weekends. This coming weekend is Garfield and The Day After Tomorrow. Of the movies listed on their coming soon page only Troy and Harry Potter are out or will be out by the weekend we are going. Of course with my luck the movie I would least like to see will be playing then, it opens the weekend before, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.
All this week the Weather Channel has told us there is a 30% chance of afternoon thundershowers. Yesterday we put the top up and it worked merely to ward off the rain. Today I used the cockpit cover and it acted as a rain magnet.
Not too long after our lunchtime walk the skies opened up big time. It didn’t look too bad during the walk, so I was surprised by the intensity that I heard on the roof over my head at my desk. It rained hard for at least 30 minutes. The cover has saved the Miata interior on several occasions in the past, but it has always been on the old car. It fits the new one alright, but because the seats stick up a little higher (Surfboard Fan Club maybe?) there is a slight gap left near the windows. I was worried that this might lead to less protection for the interior.
While it was raining lightly I borrowed an umbrella and made my way out to the north forty to see what I could see. When I peeked under the edge at the inside it looked perfectly dry. Instead of just walking away I decided to put the top up. During the brief seconds the inside was unprotected, between tossing off the cover and raising the roof, a little water managed to get in, but it was dry by the time we walked out to go home at 4:00.
When we got home I stuck the cockpit cover in the dryer on low and dried it out. It shrunk a little, but I have it stretched over the car now to help it get back to normal. I just hope that spinning experience hasn’t diminished the water repellency…
