Sturgeon’s Law

Ninety percent of everything is crap.

Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, “Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That’s because 90% of everything is crud.” Oddly, when Sturgeon’s Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to ‘crap’.

Unfried Side

At what point does too much advertising about a new product tip over into negative feeling towards said product?

Finally, after being not literally, but figuratively rained out all last week and the first 80% of this week we got to ride the bike into work today.

Started down, still down.

  • By the “unfried side”, I assume you’re talking about KFC’s new grilled chicken. They made a huge mess out of their free 2 piece meal deal. They advertised it on Oprah, then backed out after too many people took advantage of the deal. Not sure how the publicity on that worked, but seems like they are going overboard on the ads now.

I blogged about it on 5/07 at http://newfromclt.blogspot.com/2009/05/unthink-what-you-thought-about-kfc.html. Overall, I wasn’t impressed. If I’m going to KFC, I want it FRIED!!

  • I know they are disparately trying to re-invent themselves, but it might almost be better if they took a page from car manufacturers and opened a new chain of restaurants with a different name (like Lexus and Toyota or Acura and Honda) serving the grilled chicken with basically the same side dishes, just packaged differently…

  • Ummm.… taking a page from car manufacturers might not be a wise thing right now… See GM and Chrysler for example…
