Sturgeon’s Law

Ninety percent of everything is crap.

Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, “Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That’s because 90% of everything is crud.” Oddly, when Sturgeon’s Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to ‘crap’.

Ninety-Eight Dollar Shoes

Small town. Donna and I arrived early in Clarkesville to watch one last passing of the Tour de Georgia before heading home. It was chilly so we ducked in to the local coffee place for something to drink. While we waited for our beverages to arrive we devoured a homemade scone and soaked up the atmosphere. The place was full with locals and cycling tourists alike. One table over were three women chatting about stuff and Donna overhead one of them mention and then show off her new $98 shoes.

Fast forward 2 hours. We have had lunch and are checking for a nice vantage point. We find one on a curb just past a sharp turn. After we had been there about 15 minutes the tour was getting closer and the crowd was building around us, Donna pointed out that by some fluke there were the same three women from the coffee shop and right next to us were the new $98 shoes. Ever the documentarian, I took a picture.
