Sturgeon’s Law

Ninety percent of everything is crap.

Derived from a quote by science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon, who once said, “Sure, 90% of science fiction is crud. That’s because 90% of everything is crud.” Oddly, when Sturgeon’s Law is cited, the final word is almost invariably changed to ‘crap’.

The Curse of the Bambino

Well, the Red Sox lost to Oakland last night. I turned it off after 3 innings with the Sox down 3 — 0. They made it interesting, but still managed to lose 5 — 4 in 12. I wish today’s game was that close, the A’s scored 5 in the second on two hits a couple of walks and an error. The Red Sox vaulted offense never got it going and now they are down 0 — 2 in a best of 5 series.

The Sprint PCS question* for tonight’s game on FOX was, which town would be the most heartbroken if it’s team was bounced from the playoffs in the first round. The top vote getter was Boston with 37%. New York 27%, Minnesota 27% and Chicago 7%. Not a lot of true Red Sox fans must have voted because a true Red Sox fan revels in their misery. We will be heartbroken if they don’t get bounced out of the playoffs. It is better to not make it to the series at all then to lose the seventh game as usual, giving even more credence to The Curse of the Bambino.

* you can call for free on your Sprint PCS phone and vote or you can vote on the FOX web site.
